How Overland Park Residents Can Keep Their Cartilage Healthy
How Overland Park Residents Can Keep Their Cartilage Healthy
Cartilage is tissue between bones that make up the surface of joints. It has very low blood supply and therefore is difficult to heal. As this breaks down, arthritis sets in. The cartilage degenerative process is painful and no fun at all.
One of the best ways to work with the cartilage is through our nutrition. Try using bone broth. Simple recipe:
- Get a chicken carcass or two or a cow bone (femur) from the meat counter at the grocery store.
- Put the bones in a crock pot and fill most of the way up with water and a cup of vinegar.
- Simmer on low
Chicken bones 18 hours
Cow bones 24 hours - After one or two hours skim the “scum” off the top and throw away.
- As it cooks you can add herbs or garlic for flavor to taste.
- Once it is done cooking, throw away the bones. Drink the broth like a tea or as a base to soups.
Bone broth is a great way to get a VERY usable form of calcium and nutrition for your cartilage and joints.
If you haven’t had bone broth, give it a try and let us know what you think.
